| A
hot, swingin' Zydeco band guaranteed to make your feet
happy!
Their
name means "ample amounts of zydeco," and
that's what this new band promises dancers and listeners
alike. Their debut in December 2006 at The Flipside
in Clayton, followed by a special performance at Yancy's
in Raleigh, prompted raves from all who experienced
the band's unique sound.
"I've
heard zydeco bands all over Cajun country,
and Zydecopious could walk into Mulates in Breaux
Bridge on Saturday night and rock with the best local
bands around. Their zydeco, cajun, and New Orleans
R & B have packed the house every time they've played
at Chef Rameaux's. They really know how to
"laissez les bon temps rouler," I gawrantee!"

Zydecopious
offers up not only tunes that zydeco aficionados and
dancers have come to know and love (such as "Have
Mercy," "I'm Comin' Home," "My YaYa,"
"Born in the Country," "Midland Two-Step,"
"Give 'em Cornbread"), but it also plays songs
that reflect the heavy R&B-tinged music of Louisiana
and the other Gulf Coast states, such as "Baby
Please Don't Go," "Diddie-Wah-Diddie,"
and "Iko-Iko." And always expect some surprises,
as some popular hits of the past get the zydeco treatment
(remember Peggy Lee's "Fever" from 1958 and
Mongo Jerry's "In the Summertime" from 1970?).
Zydecopious,
as its name implies, delivers
copious amounts of, not only zydeco, but
spirit-raising, get-your-feet-and-body moving,
wonderful music! The FlipSide is honored to
host Zydecopious whenever possible!

Oh,
we had some fun last night here in our little town!
We didn't have a parade but we did have a PARTY! Our
favorite restaurant is Tupelo's , which is a New Orleans
kind of place so, of course, they had to celebrate
Mardi Gras!
And the place was packed - there wasn't a seat to
be had - even the seats at the bar were reserved!
There were beads, of course, and masks, and a
few top hats - moi was sporting a lovely, sequined,
top hat in Mardi Gras colors!
It
wouldn't be a party without some music and dancing,
eh?
The band, Zydecopious , was fabulous! They are a real
Zydeco band! There is no way to sit still when they
are
playing! I mean, I had to get up while I was still
eating to
dance! Usually, you wouldn't be able to pull me away
from
my Crab Cakes! Before the night was over, a couple
of
Hillsborough guys were playing the frottoir, a type
of
washboard, with them. Tupelo's owner, Matt Carroll,
was playing the tambourine, and my husband, Randy,
was playing the spoons. Yes, I would say that a good
time was had in Hillsborough on Mardi Gras!
